Turn right and then, after another km, you arrive at a crossroads where a sign indicates the left to go up to the Sibilla Refuge, at an altitude of 1540 m. From here you travel for almost 5 km of unpaved road dotted with hairpin bends. Once you reach Rifugio Sibilla, you park and the actual excursion begins. It is possible to follow two different routes: the first is the one that gives rise to the zeta-shaped "wound" on Mount Sibilla (a wide and comfortable road, but longer), the second instead climbs directly onto the crest of the mountain range and opens up, at the height of Mount Zampa, on the Infernaccio gorge.
The itinerary ranges from the sleepy village to the confluence of two valleys up to the ancient village nestled in the heart of the mountains. We proceed from Comunanza to Foce, places with varied and ancient histories, from which nature offers an enchanting spectacle, with the majesty of the mountain that descends to overlook the Pilato Lake Valley. The short distance and the beauty of the landscape encourage the climb, even if climbing up to the Gerosa dam could be difficult for those who are not used to undertakings of this magnitude.
The Petty One freed his steed and entered the Sibyl's cave. The climb up the mountain had been challenging, but the hope of finally knowing his origins pushed him to overcome the difficulties. It was dark in the cave, then the Meschino began to hear the roar of a waterfall, finally he reached the gates of the kingdom of the sorceress Alcina and entered it. He found all sorts of good. Food, beautiful women, extraordinary nature. The sorceress promised him that she would soon reveal the truth about his past. The Mean One knew that if he stayed for more than a month, his chances of making it out alive would diminish, but the sorceress continued to postpone the moment of revelation. When, after seven months, the knight was about to leave, the enchanted kingdom was transformed into a nightmare of snakes and worms. And then the Petty One fled, choosing to renounce knowledge to save his soul.
The Great Ring of the Sibillini by mountain bike is a 224 km circular route that passes through the main centers of the Park between the provinces of Macerata, Ascoli Piceno and Perugia and has a total height difference of 6,359 m. The paths are cleared of branches and any object that could hinder progress. The rare encounters give the perception of being out of this world, immersed in a well-being that takes on the rhythms of nature.
The itinerary, which follows the same direction as the Fluvione torrent, starts from the intersection between the road that leads to Meschia and the S.P. 85 Valfluvione, just before the hamlet of Uscerno di Montegallo. The route involves high and sudden differences in altitude and for this reason it is advisable to tackle it on foot and carefully.
The route focuses on a prized product of the land, the Roccafluvione truffle. We start from Marsia, climbing towards the upper part of the town. Take the road to Vallicella, 2.5 km away. Crossing the path, you come across various truffle plants and spontaneous oak woods, which represent natural truffle grounds. Once you arrive in Vallicella, you can observe the fortified houses. From Vallicella you then reach Collemoro along the S.P. 168. After 3 km, turn left and continue for 1 km until Casaregnano. Continuing out of the town, after about 3 km, you arrive at the S.P. 237 and, following the signs for Roccafluvione, take the deviation for Casacagnano. Marsia has an ancient recess with the Vicolo della Madonnina and an archaeological area called "Marsicano", from the name of the stream.
Departure from Montemonaco: descend into the Aso valley, then turning right until the small center of Foce. Once you have parked the car, you proceed along the Gardosa plain, entering a beech forest and reaching the rocky step of the Svolte, characterized by a steep path. Continue up to Monte Rotondo and from here, leaving the ruins of the Capanna Piscini on the left, proceed along the path until you see Lake Pilato (1940 m). The most impressive peaks are concentrated in the southern part of the Sibillini: Monte Vettore (2478 m), Cima del Redentore (2449m), Monte Argentella (2201 m), Palazzo Borghese (2119 m) and Monte Porche (2235 m). Lake Pilato is enclosed within this ridge and in its basins there are tongues of snowfields even in the height of summer. Lake Pilato is made up of two almost circular basins, whose surface freezes completely until spring. Here lives a unique crustacean in the world: the Marchesoni Chirocephalus, with a diaphanous orange colour, about 14 mm long. It was discovered only in 1954 by prof. Marchesoni, during the hydrogeological research conducted by the University of Camerino.
An all-round route through winding streets that, from the Fluvione valley, rise towards the highest altitudes of the hills to discover the artistic treasures that the area preserves, such as the imposing Benedictine churches. The itinerary starts from a visit to the church of Santo Stefano Protomartire in Marsia, formerly a monastery. We then proceed along the S.P. 237 until taking the provincial road to Montegallo. Continuing on the provincial road, after a detour to the right you reach Pedara, guardian of the Church of Pedara dedicated to the SS. Hippolytus and Cassian. We proceed towards Osoli and from here, after crossing the S.P. 168 and having traveled 3 km, you reach Agelli and then Pastina. Here you come across the Benedictine church of Sant'Anatolia. We now continue to Scalelle, where the church of Santa Maria Assunta is located, and from here to San Giacomo, with the 15th century church of the same name. After visiting San Giacomo, the path descends to Colleiano.
A challenging itinerary, but one that is worth tackling to suddenly find yourself faced with unforgettable views. Like those of Pian Grande, in whose colors the mind is easily lost, rediscovering that serenity that only nature in its purity can offer. The lively shades of lentil and flowering poppies contrast with the strong tones of the mountain and the intense green of the grass. Every meter of this path whispers freedom, silence, carving out eternal moments in which everyday life fades to give way only to the thought of flying.
The route offers splendid views and includes an easy climb to Macèra della Morte from Monte Comunitore. From Salaria, at Trisungo, go up towards Spelonga and, after passing the crossroads for the town, proceed left towards Monte Comunitore and Passo il Chino. Continue on the gravel road until you reach just below Monte Comunitore (1695 m). Here, after parking, go up to the right and then continue towards Passo il Chino (1581 m). You cross the Cugnolo forest and, having visited the Rifugio della Pedata (1800 m), you go up to find yourself in front of a unique view: on one side Colle Finarolo, Costa Monterotondo and the Valle della Corte, on the other the Valle del Chiarino, Pizzo of Sevo, Cima Lepri and Pizzo di Moscio. For the descent you can reach the Termine and follow the path on the left or reach Pizzitello and continue towards Pizzo di Sevo, a route which however is more demanding.
